There’s something incredibly special about getting to photograph someone you’ve watched grow up. This session with Kieran felt both personal and full circle. Her mom is like a sister to me, so I’ve known Kieran forever. When they made their annual summer trip from Kansas to visit family here in New Jersey, it felt only right to carve out time for senior portraits by the bay in Little Egg Harbor.
Senior photos are always meaningful, but this session hit different. These images represent the threshold between childhood and adulthood, and Kieran wanted to feel like herself in them: natural, grounded, a little windswept from the salt air, but radiant in that confident way that says, I’m ready for what’s next.
We chose a quiet beach along the bay in early July. The location gave us a mix of textured backdrops: soft sand, bay grasses, and a dreamy expanse of open sky.
Kieran’s blue and white dress added a clean, classic feel that popped beautifully against the landscape, especially in black-and-white. Some of my favorite frames are those simple moments where she’s looking out toward the water, her hair caught in the breeze—those quiet shots that say so much without trying too hard.
Photographing high school seniors like Kieran is a reminder of how important it is to document life’s in-between seasons. It’s not just about marking the end of high school. It’s about honoring who you’ve become, and where you’re headed next.
It doesn’t hurt when you get to do that somewhere beautiful, with someone who feels like family.
Whether you’re visiting from out of state or have lived here all your life, New Jersey has so many incredible spots for senior portraits. Beaches like this one are perfect for a calm, coastal vibe, but we also love sessions in historic towns, open fields, or city blocks with good texture.
