Nostalgic Engagement Session in North Jersey

Some engagement sessions are pretty. Some are joyful. And some, like Juliana and Jayson’s, feel like stepping into the first chapter of a love story you can’t help but root for. When these two told me they wanted to recreate their very first date for their engagement session, I knew it was going to be a special one. From a retro bowling alley to a stop for ice cream at Rita’s, every location held a piece of their history, and their gallery is bursting with color and nostalgia!

That “First Date” Glow

We kicked things off at Lucky Strike, which used to be the Bowlero Green Brook where their very first date happened. The bowling alley let us borrow a lane so the couple could cozy up under the neon lights.

Juliana wore a timeless white mini dress with a fun, flirty feel that matched the vibrant atmosphere perfectly. Jayson kept it classic with a suit.

The Red Mustang That Stole the Scene

After wrapping up at the lanes, we stepped outside with a specific photo request in mind: Jayson’s red Ford Mustang. On their first date, Juliana parked beside the car to check her makeup, assuming there was no way her quiet date-to-be could be the one driving it. Turns out, it was his, and the car has become a fun piece of their story.

We leaned into the nostalgia and framed them up with the Mustang from every angle. One of our favorite shots shows Juliana leaning into Jayson over the hood—playful, stylish, and totally in their element. The car wasn’t just a prop; it was a character in their love story.

A Sweet Ending at Rita’s Italian Ice

No first date recreation would be complete without the second stop, so I followed them to Rita’s for a whole new vibe. Juliana and Jayson enjoyed soft serve in front of the iconic red-and-white storefront, stealing kisses between bites. These quiet, joy-filled moments brought a softness to the session that balanced the bold energy of the bowling alley perfectly.

A Life of Adventure (and Good Food)

Beyond their sweet chemistry, Juliana and Jayson share a beautiful rhythm that comes from years of growing together. Jayson is an accountant; Juliana is a writer. They’ve traveled the world—Santorini, the Azores, Iceland—and even did long-distance while Juliana lived in Milan. They’re foodies, adventurers, and each other’s biggest supporters.

It was a joy to photograph them somewhere so meaningful, surrounded by stories only they could tell.

The best photos start with comfort and connection. Juliana and Jayson brought both in full force. From bowling alley laughter to Mustang side smirks to ice cream giggles, this session was unforgettable.

I’m counting the days until we get to do this again, this time at the beautiful Ashford Estate!
